Inter-School Touch and Netball Tournament - 4 August 2016

What a wonderful, action-packed, exhausting day!  All year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students participated in this sporting event held at the beautiful grounds in Pesega.
We are very proud of all our students who showed great skill and handled the long day with a positive attitude

A special mention and thank you to three parents who gave up a lot of their own time to prepare the students for this tournament with training in the weeks leading up to the tournament.

Firstly to Tasi Schuster who guided our girls with netball coaching and training them.  Her words of encouragement and advice really made a huge difference to the girls level of skill.  For a small school we did very well to have three out of four netball teams placed third in the tournament.  Thank you Tasi for giving up time from work and being such a great role-model for our girls.  We certainly hope you are up for the challenge next year!

Secondly to Liza Hodson who coached the year 7 boys touch team and Ben Nicol who coached the year 5 boys.  Again you both gave up your own time and were such a great help with coaching these teams.  The year 5 team were awarded a trophy for showing great sportsmanship.

We appreciate the support and help these parents gave and thank you to all the other parents, grandparents and friends of the school who came down on the day and supported our teams.    Fa'afetai lava.

It is wonderful to play along other schools and to enjoy the challenge of a sporting competition.

Soccer Tournament - March 2016

Year 5,6,7 and 8 students recently took place in the Private Schools Soccer Tournament.
Congratulations to all students who participated.  One year 7 student, Ceira Kennedy reflected on the day writing the following piece.

I went to the Soccer Tournament on Thursday 10th of March. It was located in the Football Federation of Samoa. When I arrived I was worried that I was going to let my team (V.B.S. 1) down. I was standing on the field of our first round. Anything could happen. I looked into the eyes of Robert Louis Stevenson School girls. We had the same goal. WIN FOR THE SCHOOL! The whistle blew. It was intense. The sun burned bright on our innocent faces. It was as if the sun was roasting us for his dinner. One goal was scored to them - not a good sign. The whistle blew. It was over. We lost. We huddled together. We had seven more chances to win. We were only at the beginning.

We had a hydration break and then we were back. From that point on we won every game. Victory was very close. Our last game was finished. Now to see who will get some praise. The boys were called. A job well done to them. The girls were announced. Result: my team WON FIRST PLACE!!! Our effort had been paid off. It was a triumphant moment. We were so happy that we smiled from ear to ear for the rest of the boiling day.

Table Tennis - Girls Take Gold - 22 August 2015

Five students represented Vaiala Beach School in a tournament hosted by the Table Tennis Federation of Sāmoa.  This tournament was the first that the students of Vaiala Beach School have entered.

The five students who represented our school were Analei Pelesasa, Andrea Schuster, Charlize Fesili, Noah Meredith, and Manu Lima.  If there’s one thing we know for a fact, is that these kids had a great time.

This inter-school competition took place at S.A.S.N.O.C in Tuanaimato. Though hidden from the public, competitive spirits grew.  The six schools that had competed in this tournament were George Brown Primary School, Marist Primary School, Pesega Middle School, Sāmoa Primary School, St. Joseph Primary School and Vaiala Beach School.

As the tension heated, the students played harder than ever before. Analei Pelesasa said “it was a great challenge” she couldn’t be more excited for the next tournament.

Even though the male contenders from our school played hard, the girl’s had stolen the spotlight getting the gold. Sāmoa Primary, not far behind, had stolen the silver, and boasting with bronze was Pesega. Along with the boys ceremony, third came Marist Primary, St. Joseph snuck into second, and first was Sāmoa Primary.

Thanking Richard McFee from the International Table Tennis Federation and Tuna Matalavea for this blissful experience for all these children to be able to show off their Table Tennis skills.

These students had a great time interacting and did very well.
